Apostolos Milioudis graduated from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2007 and got his PhD from the same department in 2012. His doctoral dissertation focused on the detection of errors of high resistances in air distribution networks. Until November 2015 he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the same department investigating methods for predicting errors in underground distribution networks. Since December 2015, he has been working at HEDNO S.A. dealing mainly with the operation and protection of medium voltage distribution networks.

Protection in distributed Networks with large Penetration of distributed Production
One-way power flow over distribution networks is obsolete. There is now a large penetration of distributed production, which is constantly increasing. In many cases, however, protection systems are designed with the consideration of one-way power flow. The environment of the ever increasing penetration of distributed production and its importance in the energy mix of the generated energy creates challenges for the proper design of network protection schemes. In each case of error, the part of the network, as well as the percentage of connected distributed production, that will be isolated, should be as small as possible. This requires the installation and proper configuration of advanced protection and communications systems in distribution networks.
