ATHANASIOS LIOUMPAS

Senior Voice Networks Engineer - Forthnet

Athanasios Lioumpas received the B.Eng. (2005) and Ph.D. (2009) degrees from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with specialization in wireless communications. He has extensive experience (A.U.Th, University of Piraeus, N.T.U.A) as a researcher and coordinator of research projects funded by european or/and national funds, as well as broad experience in mobile and fixed telephony networks design, deployment and operation (Cyta Hellas, Nokia Networks, Forthnet). He previously worked for Cyta Hellas as Network Design Engineer, launching the first full MVNO network in Greece. He was also responsible for the coordination of the company’s research projects, related to 5G networks and the internet of things. Later, he worked for Nokia Networks as a Verification Engineer for cloud-based 4G/IMS e2e solutions. Currently, he is with Forthnet, as a Senior Voice Network Engineer.
Dr. Lioumpas was awarded by the Greek Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs for contributing to the academic and scientific excellence (2012) and by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for his patent being selected by the Greek Patent Office, as a candidate for the European inventor awards 2016. He is co-author of a scientific paper that received the best paper award at the Wireless Communications Symposium of the IEEE ICC 2007. He also served as an Associate Editor for IEEE Communications Letters.
His scientific contributions include more than 40 papers in international refereed journals, peer-reviewed conferences and chapters in books, while he holds 5 patents.
