Let’s Build a Digital Friend with Its Own Character! How to Easily Create a Multi-Purpose Discord Chatbot, Using APIs.

(In Person)

Today’s language models like OpenAI’s GPT-3, or the open-source equivalent GPT-j, can deal with a plethora of different tasks, without being explicitly trained for any specific task. For instance, they could easily deal with text generation, question answering, translation, summarization, or even code generation.
The main goal of this workshop is to learn how anyone can easily fine-tune such a language model, in order to create a chatbot that would operate according to the user’s needs.
With the proper settings, one can adapt the abilities and the “character” of their chatbot.
Additionally, we will investigate how we can integrate our bot with our discord server, so that it can interact with other users.
To achieve the aforementioned tasks we will make use of open REST APIs, which will enable us to merge and interact with the different parts of our application.

Tech Stack: Python, GPT-j Server (TextSynth), OpenAI GPT-3 playground, Replit, Heroku, Discord

Prerequisites: Familiarization with Python

Brief channel Description:
I started “Tech to me About it” in 2019. My main goal is to simplify complex or even everyday technological terms and present them to the wide audience. Artificial Intelligence is one of my favorite fields of research, thus the majority of my videos up until now deal with Artificial Intelligence and its applications.
It is astonishing that whenever we are using a search engine, or some navigation app, we are actually using some sort of A.I., but most of the time we don’t even realize it.
With “Tech to me About it”, I am trying to satisfy my own curiosity, while at the same time, give a tiny bit of inspiration to anyone that might share the same curiosity as mine.

About me:
I am an Electronics Engineer, with an MSc in advanced computing and networks from the University of West Attica. Now, I am a PhD student in the research fields of Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things. Meanwhile, I am also working as a software tester in a telecommunications company.
