Vasilis Katos
Vassilis Katos is Professor of Cyber Security and head of the security incident response team, BU-CERT, at Bournemouth University in the UK. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Athens, holds an MBA from the University of Keele, and holds a PhD from the University of Aston, Great Britain. He worked for 2 years in the private sector in the Netherlands as an information security consultant. Mr. Katos specializes in digital forensics for the investigation of intellectual property crimes. As a CIS expert for the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), Mr. Katos has contributed to a number of initiatives. These include the 2018-19 Software Vulnerabilities Study and the study on the impact of the recent European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) regulation on Open Source Software. In collaboration with the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG-RTD) of the Commission, it has contributed to the current preparatory actions to create a regulation to deal with foreign interference in European research and innovation. Mr. Katos is an external expert of the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) on intellectual property crimes. He has been instrumental in developing a law enforcement guide to investigating intellectual property infringements, contributing to the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT). In addition, Mr. Katos has worked with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for more than five years, contributing to training activities for members of the judiciary from various EU Member States.
Chasing Cyberthreats in Web 3.0
The transition from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0 is happening at the same time as cybercrime is on the rise, which has reached epidemic proportions. In this talk, we will examine the need for revolutionary approaches such as proactive threat intelligence and the need for digital forensics readiness. Additionally, challenges and opportunities primarily for software engineers and computer engineers arising from the evolution and adoption of technologies, such as the emerging field of Metaverse, will be outlined.
