So, ECESCON 15 welcomes for another year, the big preECESCON 8 competition with the theme "Assistive Technologies".
"Assistive Technologies" refer to technologies designed to improve the quality of life for the elderly and people with disabilities. By "Assistive Technologies", we mean all objects, equipment, or software whose main use is to increase, maintain, or improve a person's functional ability with special needs. This year's competitors will be called upon to propose innovative ideas that will facilitate the lives of people with special needs and to present their main functions theoretically and practically. These technologies include a wide range of devices, software, and systems designed to address functional limitations, allowing these individuals to fully participate in various aspects of daily life that they couldn't otherwise. They also provide support in areas such as education, mobility, and communication. In education, they have opened new perspectives for students with different educational needs, while in the field of communication, they have allowed people to communicate effectively and participate in educational and professional environments. The main thematic axes around which the competition will revolve are: Mobility Support, Communication, Education, Accessibility.
Each team can consist of up to 5 people and has the opportunity to use any kind of hardware or software it considers the best choice, to make it the next winner of the competition. Projects will be evaluated based on originality/ innovation, social and economic impact, as well as their future prospects. The degree of completion of the projects and their technical excellence also play an equally important role in the evaluation. Additionally, guidance, in an advisory role, from a professor is permitted.
Regarding the process, the competition will take place during the conference (19-21 April 2024) which will be held in Xanthi. Each team will present its proposal in full operation along with a live demo or a model explaining the functions of its project to the jury and to those present at the competition (it is not necessary for the idea to be 100% implemented and functional). After the presentations of all the teams are completed, the committee will announce the three best teams that have advanced and of course, the winning team. The in-person presence of the teams at the conference is necessary.
